EP62: I’ve worked with my architect, Amrita Mahindroo, for nearly ten years now. Together we have created some beautiful properties across Hackney. Award winning in fact.
Here, we chat over the properties we have worked on, juggling a career and being a mum, and shed light on the diversity aspect within the industry. She also shares her forecast on what’s next in the architecture world.
Amrita Mahindroo holds a Masters degree with Honors from MIT in Architecture and Urbanism, a Bachelors’s degree in Architecture with Honours from the University of Melbourne. Following a number of years of collaboration with reputable firms in Australia, Europe, and North America, including Atelier Seraji, Shigeru Ban Architects in Paris, and the MIT Media Lab, she co-founded DROO with her husband, Michel Da Costa Goncalves.
Her interest in urban architecture and city form has been informed by her continuing research on the impact of emerging technologies and economics on future building typologies and subsequently urban form. Amrita has had the opportunity to lecture widely across the United States on her research including, UCLA, University of Oklahoma, UNC Charlotte, and MIT. She was a contributor to the journal Thresholds, Socio (MIT Press).
She has a breadth of experience in both private and public sector projects including High-end Residential, Luxury Retail and hospitality, and Contemporary Art Museums and Urban regeneration plans, with projects in Australia, Europe, Asia, and North America. She has rigorously delivered a number of high-end residential and mixed-use projects, with particular expertise in tight urban sites with innovative results.
